In 2020, during the depths of Covid, I ramped up my volunteering with my town’s emergency medical services. During ambulance rides to the hospital and hours at vaccine clinics, I received the gift of hearing life stories from friends and from strangers. Some recovered. Some struggled. Some lost loved ones. One story struck me in particular because it was a saga that went on for over a year. It was about the frustrations, uncertainties and emotional hardships that my friend went through as she wrapped up the estate of her father. As I heard her story, I looked inwards and realized that my family would face similar frustrations if I were to unexpectedly pass, or in fact, if we were to have an unexpected calamity. Our own planning bridge was unfinished. That started a quest to solve my own problem. While doing so I researched solutions, read books, spoke to my elders, friends and attorneys. I realized that many others had unfinished bridges, whether they knew it or not. That was the genesis of the solution, which we named ChronWise.
